Northwest is my neighborhood library. Going in this evening I assumed I knew exactly what I’d report here. It’s small, cute, and a little claustrophobic. I like it for picking up reserves, and that’s pretty much it.
But heading in with my newfound blogger eye, I caught a bunch of details I never noticed.
For instance, a squirrel measuring wall:

A lot of art I really don’t care for:
A sea captain’s driver’s seat:

My biggest discovery was a nook to work in that I think they added in the recent remodel. Previously I would have said there was no room to work in Northwest Library. But that is no longer the case. This looks like a fine table to work and people watch at.

There’s also a meh meeting room that, when not in use, you’re welcome to occupy.

Otherwise the library is just one good-sized room. There are two single-stall restrooms with gender-inclusive signage. There were a bunch of queer children’s books still out post-Pride.
I discovered that the rocket ship I got excited about at Albina Library is perhaps in every Multnomah County library. And now that I think about it, they must be related to this year’s Summer Reading t-shirt theme – I got my library t-shirt a month ago and it’s covered in space stuff.
On that note, I highly recommend buying a Multnomah County Library Summer Reading t-shirt before the end of summer. Kids have to hand in some sort of proof that they read to get one, but adults can just use money. They’re like $12? Half-price if you’re an educator? Cool t-shirts and a nice way to support libraries.
